Arts & culture education partnerships
Three projects developed new partnerships between schools, cultural organisations and artists:
START at the Jerwood (now the Hastings Contemporary) introduced young people to the gallery.
ASSEMBLE linked Bexhill schools with the De La Warr Pavilion and its Magnum Photos exhibition.
BEING RURAL connected three rural primary schools: Staplecross, Salehurst and Northiam: with artists, using Great Dixter as a home for inspiration.
Arts & emotional wellbeing
Three emotional wellbeing courses ran in three rural community colleges. Commissioned by East Sussex County Council Targeted Youth Support, the project worked with storyteller Hilary Watkins and artist Lorna Hamilton-Brown and years 7 to 9 students to address personal challenges, connecting with others and reflecting on their mental health.
Participatory programmes for young people
The Young Theatre Promoters at Robertsbridge Community College developed new skills as event promoters with Applause Rural Touring and Robertsbridge Arts Partnership.
The Young Museum Curators at Hastings Museum and Art Gallery took young people into the heart of museum decision making, and the Arts Champions scheme enabled 36 young people from secondary schools to become cultural experts for their peers.
Residencies
Two residencies: one with dance company Hofesh Shechter and one with the RSC: were developed to address the need for young people to access high quality arts experiences.
